The convergence of media has shifted perspectives on collections in many audiovisual archives. The changes in media production and distribution have repercussions for acquiring new media collections. The position of archives has changed in the explosion of content creation. In 2018 Sound and Vision formulated a new collection policy and started an editing board for its online and onsite presentation. Leading in the new collection policy is the subject or function of the content and no longer the medium itself or the way of distribution. Four pillars have been defined for the collection: 1. News and Information 2 Culture and Entertainment 3. Amateur and Commissioned productions 4. The Media Landscape. Key operators are four curators. Their assignment is the further development of the collection, its visibility and the increase and exchange of knowledge about collections. The curator connects the internal processes of the archivists and the editing teams to the external professionals in academia and heritage. The authority of the curators is crucial in this process. This presentation will show examples of how a change in collection policy, the production of content by Sound and Vision and the crucial position of curators improve the social role of the archive and help make the archive future proof.
