Turning Preservation Challenges of Music, Sound and Video into A Positive Repository in Ghana, GBC as a case study

It is an acknowledge fact that the colonial experience left its mark not only in political, religious and economic life of Ghanaians and for that matter Africans, but also in the field of education, entertainment and  broadcasting media as well as preserving the cultural history and heritage of the people through audio visual Preservations. Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) holds one of the biggest collections of Gramophone records, magnetic tapes, numatic tapes and other formats of video and sound. This presentation focuses on  how the preserved  materials and the new ones created daily are  being managed in GBC, to reflect what could be happening across the country of Ghana and Africa as a whole. It illuminates the reasons of their happening and suggest ways they can be mitigate if not eradicated completely and  how the digitised materials can be secured and made accessible for the benefit of the entire universe.
