The ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Company) decided to turn the physical tape archive into a file-based resource. Therefore, ORF assigned Atos in 2015 to support in creating Austria’s largest multimedia-based archive. The project was settled for 10 years with 300.000 hours (approx. 600.000 individual tapes) of audio-visual content.
The structure of the ATOS Digital Migration project (DiMi) is based on a very strong collaboration between ORF, Atos and suppliers/partners (NOA, Joanneum Research,…).
Although many challenges occurred which no one would have anticipated, we have been able, due to this setup of the project, to provide solutions with total satisfaction for all involved parties.
The present quality has been reached and held by several monitoring steps supervising the process of digital migration. But by no means are these steps just automated as Atos relies on its qualified employees and not, as other approaches do on a robotic based solution. ORF and Atos entrust the project in a team of people with different backgrounds.
But not only the team reflects a mixture of different knowledge points. The ATOS DiMi in itself is a project based on intensive communication with its client ORF as well as with its Atos internal and external experts & partners such as NOA and Joanneum Research.
The upcoming presentation will provide a deeper look into the structure, the challenges we encountered and solved, as well as the lessons learned during these first five years of digital migration.
