Get into gear! From an idea to a regularly broadcast archive segment on Austrian public television

I have been working as a media archivist for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation for almost a quarter of a decade. During these years the digital revolution took us quite for a ride.
As a young documentalist I solely connected av-content with metadata. In what felt like the blink of an eye, I found myself in quite a few new and unexpected roles. Among others, editing archive-content-themed social media posts and hosting an archive segment on TV. The latter is going to be the primary topic of my presentation.
In 2018 I started to co-host an archive-themed TV afternoon show segment that was broadcast weekly for 39 episodes. It was followed by me hosting a midday show segment since March 2019. This program still airs currently. Both segments were conceptualised by archivists. A genuine archive approach so to speak.
It is essential for media archives to stay relevant within changing scenarios. I am convinced that this also means to be seen. Figuratively but also literally. Nobody knows archive content better than we do. Therefore, I believe that nobody is better equipped to do a better job with archive content than archivists themselves.
This presentation offers a comprehensive overview of the project management steps that were taken in order to get our archive segments on screen. I will provide information on brainstorming, piloting and keeping the segment afloat.
