The French National Audiovisual Institute has been responsible since 1974 for the preservation of the audiovisual heritage produced by national broadcasters. For fifteen years, collections of public and private partners have enriched the offer given to our customers, the academic world and the general public. These digital collections are composed of all formats contents: moving images, sound archives, stills, written archives, web archives.
Given a historically "fragmented" IT architecture, the Institute has suffered in recent years from an underuse of its millions of metadata collected for the benefit of audiovisual collections, in particular in the context of the legal deposit of radio, television and web. This is why since 2014 the Institute has redesigned its documentary IT, in close coordination with the construction of a "data lake", which will allow the metadata of all the company activities to be merged (documentary, legal, commercial) in the format of the new data model updated on this occasion (and presented in 2018 IASA conference). Adopting a linked data policy will allow developing new ways of using metadata from audiovisual collections, whether it comes from AI technologies, external sources or internal document description activities
The presentation will provide an update on the progress of this project and will highlight the challenges of promoting multimedia content by archivists. It will also highlight the need to develop the tasks related to the management of collections, in particular those relating to quality and more broadly to data governance in a multimedia context.
